2007 & 2008 – 16 x 25 minutes, RTÉ
One of Ireland’s few remaining strands of television documentaries this series engages our attention with well-told stories rater than sensationalised gimmicks. The series provides a salutary reminder of the enduring value of intelligent, crafted documentaries that shine new light into otherwise obscure corners of society. Over the past eight weeks Consuming Passions has brought us entertaining insights into a variety of rich subcultures.
This highly popular summer series covered various pastimes that are more than just hobbies – they’re consuming passions! From pigeon fanciers to cat lovers to bee keepers, this series provided a touching portrayal of those who have been totally consumed by their chosen pastime.
The series takes an entertaining and affectionate look at people whose obsessions range from cuddling reptiles to piloting light aircraft, living rockabilly, dancing tango, driving trucks, flying birds of prey, whispering to horses and sailing into the sunset!
Everyone has one great passion in their life, some are just a little bit different.
